Data deletion

Last updated: October 12, 2026

You can ask us to delete the personal information we hold about you at any time. This page explains how.

1. What we may hold

The service has not launched, so we hold very little. If you have exchanged messages with one of our test accounts during development, we may hold:

  • the identifier of your Instagram account,
  • technical records of when messages were sent,
  • the content of test messages, where we have kept any for testing.

If you have emailed us, we also hold that correspondence. Our Privacy Policy describes this in full.

2. How to request deletion

  1. Email us

Send your request to dmcloserlab@gmail.com with the subject line "Data deletion request".

  2. Tell us which account

Include the username of the Instagram, Messenger or WhatsApp account you used, and, if you know it, the account or business you were messaging. Please do not send passwords or other sensitive information.

  3. We confirm it is you

We may ask you to confirm that you control the account, so that nobody else can delete your information.

  4. We delete your information and let you know

We delete the personal information we hold about you from our systems, except anything the law requires us to keep, and reply to tell you what was done.

We handle requests as soon as we reasonably can. We have not set a fixed response time, and some requests take longer than others, for example where we need to confirm who you are.

3. Removing our access to your account

If you connected an Instagram account to DM Closer Lab, for example as a tester, you can remove our access yourself:

  1. Open Instagram and go to your account settings.
  2. Find the list of apps and websites connected to your account. Meta changes the name and location of this menu from time to time.
  3. Select DM Closer Lab and remove it.

Removing access is not the same as deletion

Removing access stops us from receiving anything further from your account. It does not delete information we already hold. If you want that information deleted as well, please send a deletion request using the steps above.

4. If you messaged a business that uses DM Closer Lab

This will apply once the service is available. Your conversation belongs to the business you messaged, so you can ask that business to delete it. You can also contact us directly using the steps above, and we will work with the business to carry out your request.

5. What we may need to keep

We cannot promise that every request can be completed in full. We may keep a record of the deletion request itself, and any information the law requires us to keep. If we cannot delete something you asked us to delete, we will tell you what we kept and why.

6. Contact

Deletion requests and questions about them can be sent to dmcloserlab@gmail.com.
